Pettit, age 29, merchant, mother’s maiden name Sarah Elizabeth Allen, age 36, both born in W.Va, certificate filed 20 June 1901 by A. W. Edgell. (The mother’s age is probably a misreading of 26.)

Their marriage licence28 records the marriage on 9 May 1920 of Clarence Cook, age 27, and Maggie Pettit, age 19, both born in Roane Co., W. Va., both residents of Amma, W.Va., at the residence of G. R. Pettit in Roane Co., W.Va. by F. P. Parker.

I am not entering the children of this marriage into my database because the relationship of these Pettits to my own is distant enough that I am only tracking the ones who share the Pettit surname.

1940 census of Roane Co., West Virginia, Geary district, ED 44-2, enumerated in May, lists on p. 26B as family #394:
Cook, Clarence E., 47, wellman for U.N.F. Gas Co.; Maggie E., wife, 39; Harley B., son, 19, single, minister; Mary J., dau, 14; Bobby A., son, 7. All born in West Virgiinia, living in same house in 1935.

The preceding household is headed by Maggie’s parents.
