33. Three of the daughters of James Brown and Emily Cloe moved with their husbands to Putnam County, Indiana in 1865. They were Sesa E. Brown who married David Hall, Martha J. Brown who married Thomas Jefferson Ferrand, and Emily E. Brown who married William P. Pierce. In the early 1900’s when their children were grown, they started holding a “Brown Family Reunion”, although since the progenitors were a group of sisters, very few of the attendees were actually Browns. The secretary of the Reunion Committee was Mrs. Martha (Call) Ferrand, wife of John Wesley Ferrand, son of Thomas Jefferson Ferrand and Martha J. Brown. A newsletter on the fourth such reunion, held 17 Aug 1911 in Somerset, Indiana, compiled by Mrs. Ferrand, is the source of much of my information on this family. Quotes from that document, referred to as the “Brown Family 1911 Reunion Notes” are scattered throughout this file.
35. Col. Leroy C. Hinton, "Rowan County, Kentucky Local and County News Jottings Happenings Collections", Vol 4, 1995. 134 pages, softcover, self-printed, available in local bookshops in Morehead. Contains transcriptions of clippings from about 15 local newspapers plus other documents such as school enrollment lists from library archives. The book is not indexed, and very few of the newspaper clippings are identified as to which paper they are from, so it is nearly impossible to do lookups in, but it is a good source for items that would have made a local newspaper column in the 1915-1934 period (coverage is especially good for 1927 and 1929.) For brevity, I usually refer to it by the abbreviated title "Rowan County Jottings".

47. Letter written and signed by Emma (Smedley) Pigman on 28 Dec 1966, in possession in Dec 1999 of Ruby Ellen (Foster) Gregory, daughter of Jesse Foster and Della Smedley. The letter was copying the births and deaths from the bible of Emma’s parents, Daniel Boone Smedley and Mary E. Smedley. I do not know who currently has possession of the bible itself.
