Notes for Franklin L. Alfrey
Frank was one of the leaders of the vigilante band which killed Isaac Hall Jr. in 1868. See my article, “The Isaac Hall Murder Trial” for details.

I cannot find a death record for him. His gravestone, a double one with Jane, is inscribed F. L. Alfrey, March 6, 1839 - Jan 1918. I suspect the partial death date means that the stone was originally erected when Jane died, with Frank’s birthdate only, as is often done, and then his death date was added some time after his death, and by the time it was added, whoever ordered the change had forgotten the exact date.
Notes for Jane Elly Hall
Her death certificate (Vol. 5, #02316) records Jane Alfrey, age 73 years 11 months 13 days, born 20 Feb 1841 in Magoffin Co., Ky, died 7 Jan 1915 in Jeffersonville, Montgomery Co., married, father Isaa Hall, mother’s maiden name Annie Martin, both born in Virginia, cause of death typhoid fever, informant John F. Grooms, burial in Alfrey Grave yard, Round Co.

The place of birth is probably incorrect; there is no evidence that the Isaac Hall family was in Magoffin Co in the 1840’s.

The informant is Jane’s son-in-law, husband of Ida.
