In November 1869 Samuel bought land in Greenup Co. (Deed Book X, p. 68), but he did not move there right away, because he is still in Lewis Co. in the 1870 census. Perhaps he had to get a house built on the Greenup Co. land before moving there. The deed was not recorded until 1886, well after Samuel's death, since Rebecca was widowed by 1880. It reads:

To all to whom it may concern, That I, Benjamin Spriggs, do relinquish any right, a part of boundary lying on the waters of Stackun Fork of White Oak above the Kenton Furnace to the said Samuel Pettit, designated as follows. Commencing at a stone in the Northwest line of the Conley boundary, running with said line on to a stake in the Grayham line Thence with the Grayham line Westwardly to the top of the hill to a Road. With the meanders of said road Northwardly to two Black Oaks and White Oak to an old line. Thence with said line South Eastwardly with an old marked line to place of beginning, To have and to hold all my right and title to that part of said boundary containing One Hundred acres, more or less, for and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred Dollars paid in hand, That witness whereof the said Spriggs affix his name this November 26, 1869.

This same land was sold by Samuel's heirs in Sep 1896, but the deed was not recorded in Greenup Co. books until April 1902, having been delivered to the Mayor of Murray City, Hocking Co., Ohio, in August 1901. Here is the deed as recorded in Greenup Co. Deed Book 31, p. 14 (typed, exactly as below):

This indenture made this __ day of September 1896 between Rebecca Pettit and John Pettit and Susan Pettit, his wife, Preston Silvey and Georgia Ann Silvey, his wife, Charles Pettit and Laura Pettit, his wife, James Kidd and Florence Kidd, his wife, David Floyd Pettit and Jennie Pettit, his wife, Henry Hite and Nancy Cordelia Hite, his wife, and Samuel Pettitt, widow and heirs of Samuel Pettit, deceased, of the first part, and Charles Pierce of the second part, witnesseth: That for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars in hand paid the said party of the first part have bargained and sold and by these presents convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Greenup and State of Kentucky and bounded and described as follows: <same description as above, word for word>. It being the same land conveyed to said Samuel Pettit by Benjamin Spriggs by deed recorded in Deed Book X, p. 58. To haved and to hold the same with the appurtenances unto the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever. And the party of the first part further covenant with the party of the second part that they will warrant generally the title to said land. In testimony whereof the parties of the first part hath hereunto subscribed their names.

Note that the Mayor's list does not include Preston and Georgeann. I don't know if that is just an oversight, or if it means that they were not among the group of heirs who brought the deed to be recorded in Aug 1901.

Samuel's heirs should have held out for a better deal. The very next deed in the book, recorded the same day (25 Apr 1902), and written on 13 Sep 1901, is from Charles Peirce and Pearly Pierce, his wife, conveying the same parcel of land to Samuel Harvey Anderson, for two hundred dollars.

1830 census of Bath Co., KY, p. 213, line 20, records this family as:
Samuel Pettit, 1 male 15-19 yrs, 1 female 20-29 yrs. (The line immediately above was for the Mathew Pettit family.)

1840 census of Bath Co., KY, district east of Slate Creek, lists on page 67, line 8:
Pettit, Saml (farmer), 1 male 20-29, 1 male 5-9, 2 males under 5, 1 female 20-29, 2 females 5-9, 1 female under 5.
In 1840, Samuel would have been 29, Benjamin 9, Bluford 5, Preston 3, Mary 8, Lucinda 6, and Elizabeth 1. If the female 20-29 is Nancy, and the age is correct, then she must be just at the dividing line, as she was also listed as 20-29 in the 1830 census.

1850 census of Morgan Co., KY, 16 Aug, lists on p. 106, family #273, between Simon Link and Samuel Elliott Sr:
Petitt, Samuel, 39 (farmer); Rebecca, 23; Benjamin, 19; Mary, 18; Lorinda, 16; Bluford, 15; Preston, 13; Elizabeth, 11; Louisa, 3. All born in KY.

1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 17 July, lists on p. 72 as family #445/441:
Samuel Pettitt, 49; Rebecca, 34; Lucinda, 24; Elizabeth, 20; Louisa G. A., 13; John A., 9; Samuel, 6; Charles, 4; Florence, 1. All born in Ky. There is a remark "idiot" by Elizabeth.

1870 census of Lewis Co., KY, 19 Aug, lists on p. 461, family #121:
Petitt, Samuel 59 (laborer); Rebecca J. 42; John A., 19; Samuel, 16; Charles, 14; Florence J., 10; David F., 7; Nancy C., 2. All born in KY. Rebecca and the three oldest children are marked as unable to read or write (this data field is only recorded for people over 12.)

Her death certificate records Rebecca Jane Pettit, age 88 years 3 months 25 days, born 8 Oct 1926 in Kentucky, died 3 Feb 1915 in Athens Co., Ohio, father Charles Foster, mother’s maiden name Mary Patrick, both born in Ky, cause of death mitral insufficiency, informant Mrs. Henry Hite, Nelsonville, Ohio, burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.

1880 census of Greenup Co., Ky, enumerated 4 June, records on page 71A, in Precinct 3 (Liberty), as family #73:
Pettit, Rebecca J., 52, widow; David F., 17, son, works at furnace; Nancy C., 12, daughter. All born in Kentucky.

(The next household is that of James Kidd and Florence J. Pettit.)

In 1900 Rebecca was listed as age 73, born Oct 1826, in Hocking Co., Ohio, with her son Floyd.

In 1910 she was listed as age 83 in Athens Co., Ohio with her daughter Cordelia.

Morgan Co. marriage register, book 1, page 69, records license issued to Samuel Pettitt and Jane Foster on 26 Dec 1844, no return. (Their son Charles' birth record gives her name as Rebecca J. Foster.)
