Her death certificate records Georgena Royce, age 75 years 9 months 2 days, born 20 May 1843 in Ky, died 12 April 1919 in Portsmouth, Scioto Co., Ohio, residence 1125 Kendal Ave, widow of B. R. Royse, parents unknown, born in Ky, cause of death acute follicular tonsillitis, informant Richmond Royce, 1125 Kendal Ave, burial in Morehead, Ky.

Note that the reported birthdate and age at death are inconsistent. The age would imply a birthdate of 10 July 1843, conversely, the birthdate would imply an age of 75 years 11 months 23 days.

The informant is her youngest son. The identification as being the widow of B. R. Royce suggests that she may have married two Royses, since Richmond would surely have known his own father’s name. Another possibility, though, is that William’s middle initial was R, perhaps William Robert like his son born in 1868, and that the B stands for Bill.

In May 1910 she was listed in Fleming Co. as Georgia A. Royse, age 65, mother, widowed, with her son Richmond.

Rowan Co. marriage report for 1859 to the Kentucky state auditor records the marriage on 15 Dec 1859 of William Royce, age 18, residence Rowan Co., born Morgan Co, to George Ann Riddle, age 17, residence Morgan Co., born Morgan Co.

I cannot find this family in the 1860 census. There is a William Royce, age 18 in Fleming Co., but he is single living with his parents, William and Rebecca Royce. (Some online family trees erroneously list that William Royce/Royse as Georgia’s husband, but he was continuously resident in Fleming Co.)

1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, enumerated 9 June, lists on p. 6 as family #32:
Royse, William, 29, farmer; Georgian, 28; John, 7; Sarah, 5; William, 1. All born in Ky.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 49 as family #339/364:
Royse, William, 39, farmer; Georgiann, 38, wife; John, 16, relationship blank; Sarah E., 14, wife (erroneously); William R., 11, son; George F., 8, son; Ella A., 2, dau. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 18 June, lists on p. 12B as family #210/214:
Royse, Georgia A., 55, b. 1845, widowed; Etta (it looks like Ella with a line over the a), dau, 22, b. 1878; Richmond, son, 17, b. Jan 1882; Bailey, Nora, boarder, 3, b. 1897. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Georgia is not really widowed, unless she divorced, remarried to another Royse, and the second one died, since her ex-husband William is listed in Fleming Co. Nora Bailey is the daughter of William and Georgia’s daughter Etta, so she should have been listed as a granddaughter.
