Rowan County News of Thursday, Aug. 4, 1932, reports “Elliott County Man Dies of Knife Wounds – It was reported here that Dave Sublett, 74 year old resident of Elliott County, died this morning of wounds in the back and ribs suffered during a dispute near Sandy Hook. He was struck in the back with an iron pipe and several ribs were broken, it was reported. Only the meagerest details of the case could be ascertained and the name of the slayer was not available.”

Curiously, I cannot find his death certificate. Several user-submitted family trees on Ancestry.com list his date of death as 24 Dec 1947, no place, no source. Either the newspaper article was incorrect and he did not actually die of his wounds from the reported attack, or the submitters of the family trees have confused the death record for a different David Sublett.

Her death certificate records Sarah Elizabeth Subblett, age 8x (blob of ink), born 29 Oct 1866 in Rown County Kentucky, died 21 July 1950 at Kings Daughters Hospital, Ashland, Boyd Co., Ky, residence 3447 Winchester Ave., Ashland, length of residence in county 25 years, widowed, father William Royce, mother’s maiden name Georia Ann Riddle, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage due to chronic myocarditis & arteriosclerosis, informant Mrs. Cora Carp, daughter, burial in Ashland Cemetery.

Since she was listed in the censuses as age 5 in 1870 and age 14 in 1880, her actual birthdate was probably in 1865 rather than 1866.
