1870 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Moccasin precinct, lists as family #21:
Mays, John, 24, Va; Cela, 27, Va; Nancy A., 10/12, Ky, born August.
(The preceding household is headed by Celia’s mother, Nancy Slusher.)
1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, enumerated 10 June, lists on p. 15 as family #117:
Mays, John, 35; Celia, 38; Nancy A., 10; Wm. H., 8.
The census says that all family members and their parents were born in Ky, but Celia and her parents were really born in Virginia. Neighbors are widowed Rachel Mays, age 63, and James P. Howard.
1900 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Devil’s Fork precinct, enumerated in June (date blank), lists on p. 5A as family #82:
Maize, John, 55, b. Nov 1844, farmer; Sela, 57, b. Dec 1843, married 32 years, mother of 4 children, 3 living; Nacy A., dau, 30, b. Oct 1869; Henry, son, 15, b. May 1885. All are listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although it is incorrect for Celia.
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown, E. D. 156, page 14A, records as family #228:
Maize, John, 66, Ky Ky Ky; Celia, 70, Va Va Va; married 43 years, 3 children, 3 living; daughter Nancy A., 42, widowed, Ky Ky Va; son Henry C., 23, single, Ky Ky Va.
I cannot find this family after 1910, in either the censuses or the death records.
