This family is not directly related to me, but three of their children (James, John and Mindy) married children of Joseph Slusher and Nancy Wade (Margaret, Celia, and Joseph Jr.), so a lot of their descendants are cousins of ours on the Slusher side.

1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists this family as:
Mays, William, 46; Anna, 44; James, 24; Francis, 23; Nancy, 20; Wm. D., 18; Rebecca, 16; John D., 13; Elizabeth, 11; Lindsey, 9; Anna, 8; Amanda, 6; Green F., 4; Sarah, 2. All born in Ky.

(It is unusual to see two children, William and Rebecca, switching places in the birth order.)

1870 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, lists as family #148:
Mays, William, 56; Anna, 55; Linsey, 21; Annazena, 19; Rebecca, 18; Arminda, 17; Jane, 15; Green, 13; Sarah, 11; Ellen, 8. All born in Kentucky.

(Here the ages and birth orders are even more different. If this is the same Rebecca as in the two earlier censuses, she should be the oldest child, between 26 and 29. Jane does not seem to match any child listed in 1860, since Arminda is presumably the daughter listed as Amanda in 1860.)

1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, enumerated 10 June, lists on p. 15 as family #114:
