His gravestone also has his birthdate as May 24, 1871, but that is inconsistent with the census records, which list him as age 8 in 1880 and age 28 born May 1872 in 1900.

Her death certificate records Louella Foster, age 73, born 26 Oct 1877 in West Liberty, Ky, died 24 Oct 1951 at home in Middletown, Butler Co., Ohio, address 1909 Logan St., widowed, father William Short, mother’s maiden name Evelyn Elam, cause of death arthritis deformans, informant Mrs. Minnie Short, burial in Woodside Cemetery.

In 1940 she was recorded with her daughter Minnie and son-in-law Courtney Short as Louella Foster, age 60, widowed, mother-in-law. See their census notes for details.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage of Robert Foster and Lou E. Short on 14 June 1895 at A. Shorts by B. F. Thomas, witnesses James Short and Louisa Miles.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce precinct, enumerated 5 June, lists on p. 4B as family #67:

1910 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty precinct, enumerated 2 May, lists on p. 12A as family #199/215:
Foster, Robert, 38, farmer, b. Ky Ky Ky; Lou E., wife, 32, b. Ky Tenn Ky, first marriage for both, married 15 years, mother of 4 children, 4 living; Millard, son, 14; Myrtle, dau, 13; Eva, dau, 9; Minnie, dau, 3. All children born Ky Ky Ky.

The preceding household is headed by Louella’s parents, William C. Short age 56, born Tenn Va Tenn, and wife Evalina age 66 b. Ky Va Ky.

I cannot find this family in the 1920 census. Millard is in Middletown, already married.

1930 census of Butler Co., Ohio, Lemon township (outside Middletown), enumerated 12 April, lists on p. 6A as family #109/115:
Foster, Robert, 57, age at first marriage 23, b. Ky Ky Ky, farm laborer; Louellen, wife, 50, age at first marriage 16, b. Ky Ky Ky; Short, Courtney, grandson, 6, b. Ohio Ky Ky.

The grandson Courtney Short is the son of Minnie May Foster and Courtney Short Sr. He is redundantly enumerated in this census with his parents, living in Middletown proper. Robert and Louella’s son Millard heads the following household.
