Her middle initial is recorded as E on the 1880 census, but as A on her marriage record, and as L on the 1900 and 1930 censuses. (If it weren’t for the death certificate, I would have taken the marriage record as being for Martha A. Alfrey the daughter of Frank Alfrey and Jane Hall, since they were so close in age and the initial is a better match.)
