Notes for Samuel Scott & Frances (“Fanny”) (Family)
Morgan Co. marriage register book 1, p. 19, records marriage of Samuel Elliott and Fanny Perry, on 27 June 1831, by S. R. Turner, J. P.
This is not a complete family group. Samuel and Fanny had at least 11 children. I am only entering the ones who connect with my relatives in some way, such as John who married Mary Ann Pettit.
Census
1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, p. 106, records as family #274, between households of Samuel Petitt and Marcus Law:
Samuel Elliott Sr., 47; Fanny, 44; John, 19; James, 17; Hermian (f), 15; Amanda, 13; Mary, 11; Benjamin, 9; William, 4. All born in Kentucky.
1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 12 as family #68/66:
Samuel S. Elliott, 57, farmer; Frances, 54; James A., 28; Amanda H, 23; Mary M., 21; Benjamin S., 19; William B., 15; Nancy J., 8. All born in Ky.
Nancy J. is probably the daughter of John Elliott and Mary Pettit.
1870 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Blairs Mill precinct, p. 381, lists as family #69/66:
Elliott, Sam’l S., 65, farmer, b. Indiana; Frances, 63, b. Ky; Amanda, 32, Ky; Nancy, 17, Ky; Sarah J., 6, Ky.
Sarah is a granddaughter. Her death certificate lists her as the daughter of “William Elliott and Ruth Fallor”, but there is no record of Samuel and Frances’ son William marrying before his marriage to Damie Lewis Robinson in 1872. Sarah was probably really the daughter of James A. Elliott and Ruth Jones. Ruth died in early 1864, most likely in childbirth, and James died before 1870.
1880 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Blairs Mill precinct, enumerated in June, lists on p. 16 as family #131:
Elliott, Samuel, 75, widowed, farmer; Amanda, 42, granddau, single; Cyntha A., 16, great-granddau, single. All born Ky Ky Ky.
The relationships for Amanda and Cyntha are probably wrong, that is, Amanda is probably Samuel and Frances’ daughter and Cyntha their granddaughter, since Amanda was listed with Samuel and Fanny in all the censuses, and in age order, and Samuel was only about 34 when she was born. If Amanda were a granddaughter, he would have had to have a previous very young marriage.
I cannot find any match for Cyntha in the 1870 census under the name Cyntha (or related spellings), with either Elliott or Lewis as a surname. She is not the same child listed as Sarah J. age 6 in 1870, though, since there are separate death records for Sarah Jane in 1935 (who married Lafayette Byrom), and Cynthia Ann in 1859 (who married Hiram Harvey Collins).
