I cannot find this John M. Day in any census earlier than 1870, or any John Day son of a John Day of approximately the right age who is not already known to have a different family. His birthdate is only one day different from that of Jonathan J. Day born 21 April 1848 in Fleming Co, son of Squire A. Day and Maranda Jones, but he cannot be the same person, because that Jonathan Day was recorded with his parents in 1870, when this John M. Jones was already married to Lydia.
His death certificate records John Mason Day, age 76 years 10 months 6 days, born 20 Apr 1848, birthplace unknown, died 14 Feb 1925 in Hogtown precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, farmer, married, father John Day, mother do not know, cause of death squamous epithelioma of upper lip and gums, informant Glen Maze, Morehead, Ky, burial in Elliottsville, Ky.
Glen Maze is the husband of John’s daughter Flora.
