I am mainly entering this family because their son George A. Carter was the second husband of Malissa Clark, who was my first cousin 4 times removed on the Clark side, and whose first husband was my great-great uncle Johnnie Pettit.

George W. and Cyntha very probably had other children born between Anna and George A., but I do not have a complete family record for them.

1870 census of Elliott Co., Newcombe Fork precinct, lists as family #44:
Carter, George W., 62; Cyntha, 60; Jesse, 23; Wane, 19; Margarett, 15; Presley, 10. All born in Virginia. (Although this census says that all the children were born in Virginia, it is inconsistent with the 1880 census which says that Wayne and Presley were born in Kentucky.)

1880 census of Elliott Co., Newfoundland precinct, lists as family #131:
Carter, George W., 72, Va Va Va; Cynthia, Va Va Va; Presley, 20, son, Ky Va Ky.
