Census Notes for Richard & Margaret (Family)
1870 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty precinct, enumerated 16 Aug, lists on p. 24 as family #153/154:
Easterling, Richard, 34, farmer, b. Ky; Margaret, 32, b. Va; Harlan C., 7; Marion L., 5; Cornelius P., 3; Mary, 1. All children born in Ky. Watson, Mary, 60, b. Ky.

1880 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty precinct, enumerated 22 June, lists on p. 35 as family #303:
Easterling, Richard, farmer; Margaret, 40, wife; Harlan, 16, son; Marion, 14, son; Porter, 12, son; Marry, 10, dau; Lousinda, 8, dau; Peter Bruce, 1, son.

The birthplace columns have a wavy line extending vertically down from line 1, where it says Kentucky Kentucky Kentucky, all the way to the bottom of the page. If taken literally, this would mean everyone on the page and their parents were all born in Kentucky, but in reality it appears that the enumerator (P. B. Turner) simply did not ask, since there are quite a few people on the page known from other census years to be born elsewhere.

1900 census of Morgan Co., Ky, River precinct, enumerated 3 June, lists on p. 2B as family #29/30:
Easterling, Richard, 65, b. Nov 1834, Ky Va Va; Margaret, wife, 64, b. Nov 1835, Ky Va Va, married 37 years, mother of 8 children, 2 living; Watsin, Mary A., mother-in-law, 92, b. Apr 1808, N.C. N.C. N.C., widowed; Easterling, Porter, son, 33, b. Nov 1866, Ky Va Va, single.

Living in the same dwelling but with their own family number (#29/31) is Henry G. Porter, age 21, b. May 1879, with wife Mary and baby daughter Edna. I believe this to be the same son listed as Peter Bruce in 1880. If not, the age and birth date must be incorrect.

More than 2 of Richard and Margaret’s children were alive in 1900, so they apparently interpreted the question to mean the number who were living with them.
