Notes for Melvina McClain
I do not know for sure who Melvina’s parents are. She would fit into the Beverly McClain family as their first child (they were married in Jan 1831, and their oldest daughter I know of is Nancy b. ca 1833, who was listed as age 17 still single at home in 1850).
On the other hand, Calvin’s mother Nancy, who was living with Calvin and Melvina in June 1850, married Charles McClain in April 1852. So she would have had frequent contact with Charles McClain if he were Melvina’s father. But the Charles McClain family is very full of girls, including my GGGG Grandmother Emily McClain who was also listed as 18 in 1850. So if Melvina is Charles’ daughter, then she would have to be a twin of one of the others. Possible, but not as likely. So I am tentatively including her in the Beverly McClain family.

Notes for Calvin & Melvina (Family)
Morgan Co. marriage book 1, on LDS microfilm #839,918, records on page 96 license issued to Calvin Fulks and Melvina McClain on 22 Feb 1849. The return dated 23 Feb 1849 by Jos Nickell certifies that the marriage was performed between Calvin Fulks and Nancy McClain, so apparently her name is either Nancy Melvina or Melvina Nancy, or else the return is simply in error.
Census
1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists as family #864:
Calvin Fultz, 22, Va, farmer; Melvina, 18, Ky; Isaac, 6/12, Ky; Nancy Fultz, 46, Va; James, 19, Va; John, 16, Va; Nicholas, 15, Va; George, 12, Va.
I cannot find the Calvin Fulks/Fultz family in the 1860 census.
1870 census of Wolfe Co., Ky, precinct 2, Hazle Green P.O., enumerated 9 July, lists on p. 11 as family #64:
Fulks, Calvin, 39, farmer, b. Va; Melvina, 39, b. Ky; Isaac, 19; George N., 14; Nicholas, 11; John C. B., 8; Mary A., 6; Malinda J., 4. All children born in Kentucky.
The following two households are headed by his brothers James age 34 and George W. age 30.
1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur district, enumerated 4 June, lists on p. 6 as family #53/56:
Fulks, Calven, 54, farmer, b. Va Va Va; Mary, 47, wife, b. N.C. N.C. N.C.; John, 19, son, b. Ky Va Va; Mary, 16, dau, b. Ky Va Va; Malindy J., 14, dau, b. Ky Va N.C.
The next household is Newton Fulks age 24, single, with the relationship given as son, even though he has his own household number 54/58.
