Juanita Blair lists Pleasant as being born in Johnson Co. in 1832, but it wasn’t formed until 1843. So she must mean an area that later became part of Johnson County, probably Floyd.

Her death certificate records Claresse Harris, age 83 years 10 months 27 days, born 3 Feb 1839 in Kentucky, died 30 Dec 1922 in Portsmouth, Scioto Co., Ohio, residence 1202 Young, widowed, father Fowler Nickell, mother’s maiden name Nancy J. Brown, both born in Kentucky, burial in Greenlawn.

1860 census of Rowan Co., Ky, lists this family as:
Harris, P. H., 27; Clairesa, 21; Wm. F., 3; John J., 2; H. C., 5/12; Amanda J., 6. All born in Kentucky.
Amanda being listed at the end would usually suggest that she is a niece or other relative of Pleasant Hayden rather than a daughter, but according to Juanita C. Blair, her direct descendant, she is a daughter of P. H. and his first wife Virginia Kendall.

1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, lists as family #35:
Harris, Hayden, 38, farmer; Clarrissa, 32; Amanda, 15; William, 13; John, 11; Henry, 10; Nancy, 7; Sarah, 6; Eliza, 4; Mary, 1; Nickell, Nancy, 46, domestic servant. All born in Ky.
(Nancy is Clarissa’s mother, the wife of Fowler Nickell, who is listed separately in household #45.)

Martha Evaline is missing from this census. She should be listed as age 2.

Mary A. and Peachy should be listed as granddaughters instead of daughters.

All except Hayden born Ky Ky Ky.

It was really Hayden’s second marriage. Aretta is his daughter-in-law, not his stepdaughter.
