His death certificate records Thomas H. Harris, age 53 years 7 months 6 days, birthdate blank, died 21 Dec 1928 in New Boston, Scioto Co., Ohio, married, husband of Rebecca Harris, father Hayden Harris, mother’s maiden name Clarice Nichols.

The reported age at death would imply a birthdate of 15 May 1875, but it is almost certainly off by 4 or 5 years, since he was listed in the 1880 census as age 9, and in the 1900 census as age 30 born April 1870.

Her death certificate records Rebecca Jane Harris, age 71 years 4 months 25 days, born 22 Dec 1873 in Willmore, West Va, died 17 May 1945 in New Boston, Scioto Co., Ohio, married, wife of Thomas Harris, father Harvey Trent, mother’s maiden name Rene Lambert.

The birthdate is likely to be incorrect, because it conflicts with the birth of Julius Caesar Trent in Jan 1873, and Ellen Trent in 1874. The 1900 census gives her birthdate as Dec 1869. She does not, however, appear with the Harvey Trent family in the 1880 census, nor with either Harvey or Rena separately in 1870, when they were both single and living with their respective parents. But their son Lorenzo was born before they were married, so Rebecca may have been as well. Most likely she was raised by some other relative.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 2, p. 98 records the marriage on 17 Feb 1891 of Thomas H. Harris and Rebecca Trent, bond surety by S. J. Porter, consent note attached from P. H. Harris for his son.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 5 June, lists on p. 3B as family #58:
Harris, Thomas, 30, born Apr 1870, day laborer; Rebecca, wife, 30, b. Dec 1869, married 9 years, mother of 5 children, 3 living; Ina C., dau, 7, b. Oct 1892; Lleslie, son, 6, b. Apr 1894; Gladus, son, 1, b. Nov 1898. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although that is inconsistent with other records for Rebecca.

1910 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Porter township, enumerated 23 April, lists on p. 11A as family #216/227:
Harris, Thomas H., 38, b. Ky Ky Ky, presser at brick yard; Rebecca, wife, 37, first marriage, married 18 years, mother of 5 children, 4 living; Inie C., dau, 16; Leslie H., son, 15; Gladys E., dau, 11; Estella B., dau, 7. All children born Ky Ky Va.

So far as I know, Thomas Harris had no sister who married a Pettit (or variant spelling), so Jennie is apparently a daughter of John Pettit and Tye Trent, who had recently split. (In 1920 John was living in Buchanon Co., Va, with their older children, incorrectly listed as widowed, and Tye was living in Rowan Co., Ky with her parents under her maiden name, listed as single. They were back together by 1930, though.)
