His death certificate (Vol 58, #28610) records Harvey Trent, died Nov 27, 1929, age 79, in Rowan Co., widowed, born Jan 9, 1851 in W Va (West Virginia, however, didn’t exist until 1865), occupation blacksmith and farmer, father Smith Trent, mother Miss Cline, both born in Va, cause of death Brights disease of kidneys, informant Julius Trent, Elliottsville, Ky, burial Trent Cemetery. Julius Trent is also listed as the undertaker.

She has two death certificates.

The first one (#25488, filed 10 Dec 1922, signed in the physician’s report by S. J. Porter of Vale, Ky, with the note “did not attend her”) records Rena Trent, died Nov 1, 1922, age 71 years 7 mos 12 days, in Rowan Co., married, born March 18, 1851 in Va, occupation housewife, father Philip Lambert, mother Rebeca Morgan, both born in Va, cause of death Brights disease of kidney, informant Harvy Trent, Elliottsville, Ky, burial Trent Cemetery, undertaker Julius Trent, Clayton, Ky.

The second one (#28662, filed 21 Dec 1922, and signed by attending physician Wales S. Brown of Ordinary, Ky) records Reeny Trent, died Nov 1, 1922, age 72 years 7 mos 23 days, in Hogtown precinct, Rowan Co., married, born March 18, 1850 in W. Va, occupation housewife, father Philip Lambert, mother Rebecca Morgan, both born in Va, cause of death nephritis, informant Harvey Trent, Elliottsville, Ky, burial Trent Cemetery, undertaker Julious Trent, Elliottville.

This family is not related to me by blood, but four of their seven children married relatives of mine, so most of their grandchildren are my cousins of some degree.

McDowell Co. WV marriage book #1, p. 96, records marriage license issued on 16 Jan 1872 for Harvey Trent, age 21, single, occupation farmer, born Logan Co., Va, residence McDowell Co., WV, father Smith Trent, and Rena Lambert, age 22, single, born Tazewell Co., Va, residence McDowell Co., WV, parents Philip and Rebecca Lambert. No return.

Harvey’s mother not being listed may indicate that she died when he was very young.

1880 census of Wayne Co., WV, Lincoln district, lists as family #19:
Trent, Harvey, 29, WV VA VA, blacksmith; Irene, 30, WV VA VA, wife; Loranza, 9, WV WV WV, son; Julius, 7, WV WV WV, son; Ellen, 6, WV WV WV, dau; Harvey, 4, WV WV WV, son; Nichoti, 3, WV WV WV, son (but should be dau).

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 17 June, lists on pp. 8A-8B as family #136:
Trent, Harvey Sr., 49, b. Jan 1851, WV/Va/Va; Reeny, 50, wife, b. Mar 1850, WV/WV/WV; Harvy, 6, son, b. 1894, WV/WV/WV; Mollie, 3, granddaughter, b. Feb 1897, Ky/WV/WV.

I believe Harvey age 6 should be listed as a grandson as well. (Harvey & Rena’s son Harvey “Dutch” Trent was born in 1875, and it is very unlikely that they named two surviving sons Harvey.) It is probable that Harvey age 6 and Mollie age 3 are the children of Ellen Trent, although I do not know who their father(s) was/were. (Harve at least was not the son of Mace Fraley, since Harve was listed as a half-brother in the obituary of Mace and Ellen’s daughter Tye.)

1910 census of Rowan Co., Hoggtown, E.D. 156, page 5B, lists as family #86:
Trent, Harvy, 59, Va Va Va; Rena, 60, Va Va Va. Married 41 years, 9 children, 7 living. Fraley, Harvy, grandson, 15, Ky Ky Ky.
I believe the grandson Harvy Fraley age 15 is the same as the Harvy Trent age 6 from the 1900 census.

1920 census of Rowan Co., magisterial district #3, lists as family #201:
Trent, Harvie, 69; Rena, 70; both born in Virginia; daughter Orick (?), 40.
(The daughter may be Nickety, who was 42, and who was not listed with Johnny in 1920.)

The preceding household is that of their grandson Harve and his wife Kate, who is listed in that census as Henry Trent.
