Her death certificate records Mrs. Elizabeth Harris, age 90, birth date blank, born in Ky, died 1 Apr 1927 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Kentucky, widowed, parents “Don’t know”, cause of death arteriosclerosis, informant Mrs. Lillie Holland, Morehead, Ky, burial in Bradley Cemetery.

Her gravestone is inscribed with the birth date 26 June 1846. The 1900 census said April 1843. In the 1870 census, she was recorded as age 30, which would imply about 1840. With such a wide birthdate range to choose from, and no clues as to her parents, attempting to identify her in the 1850 and 1860 censuses would be difficult.

1880 census of Boyd Co., Ky, Upper Catlettsburg, enumerated 12 June, lists on p. 33 as family #4:
Harris, Henry, 37, b. Ky/SC/Ky, works on farm; Lizzie, wife, 33, b. Ky/Va/Va; William, son, 14; Mote, dau, 12; Joe, son, 12; Rosa, dau, 7; Lily, dau, 5. All children born Ky/Ky/Ky.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 28 June, lists on p. 22A as family #410:
Harris, Henry, 60, b. Feb 1840, farmer; Lizzie, wife, 57, born Apr 1843, married 27 years, mother of 6 children, 6 living; Crawford, Eddie, grandson, 9, b. Apr 1891; Crawford, Millard, grandson, 7, b. Mar 1893. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Eddie and Millard Crawford are sons of their daughter Rosa and her first husband, Ollie Crawford. Rosa is recorded next door with her second husband, John W. McClain.

I cannot find this family in the 1910 census. Nor can I find their daughter and son-in-law John & Rosa (Harris) McClain. There are a lot of Rowan Co. families that I can’t find in 1910, mostly from the Christy Creek area; I suspect that either the records for some area were lost or not visited.
