Notes for Elizabeth Goodan
Her death certificate records Elsibeth Day, age 90 years 9 months 20 days, born 30 Nov 1823 in Carter, Ky, died 20 Aug 1913 in Enterprise, Cedar Grove precinct, Carter Co., Ky, widowed, father Daniel Gooden, mother’s maiden name Sallie Williams, cause of death paralysis of left side, senile old age, informant J. A. Day, Enterprise, Ky, burial info blank.
Her gravestone has her birthdate as Nov 30, 1826. Census records are so inconsistent as to not be of much help. (Assuming that the month of November is correct, her age in 1850 would imply a birth in 1827, 1860 would imply 1823, 1870 would imply 1825, 1880 would imply 1829, 1900 would imply 1828, and 1910 would imply 1826. Every year from 1823 through 1829 gets exactly one vote, except for 1824! With that kind of track record, chances are good that the missing 1890 census recorded her as age 65.)
Census
In 1900 she was listed in Farmers, Rowan Co., Ky, with her widowed daughter Sarah, as Bettie Day, mother, 71, b. Nov 1828, widowed, mother of 11 children, 9 living.
In 1910 she was listed in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, with her granddaughter Martha Jane White Kissinger (daughter of James White Mary Emma Day), as Elizabeth Day, mother-in-law, 83, widowed, mother of 11 children, 8 living.
