His death certificate records R. M. Day, age 72 years 0 months 17 days, born 10 Sep 1847 in Ky, died 27 Sep 1919 in precinct 5, Carter Co., Ky, married, farmer, father Riley Day, born in Va, mother’s maiden name Amanda Pelfrey, born in Ky, cause of death lobar pneumonia, informant Jno N. Pelfrey, Olive Hill, Ky, burial in Pelfrey Cemetery.
I don’t know where the “Amanda Pelfrey” comes from. The informant, John N. Pelfrey, was Riley’s son-in-law, the husband of Riley’s daughter Anna Belle Day.
His gravestone is inscribed with the dates Aug 13, 1846 - Sep 27, 1919.
The death certificate for his brother John, however, has the birthdate 9 Dec 1846. They cannot both be right, since Aug 1846 is only four months before Dec 1846. Nor would John be born in Dec 1846 with Riley in Sep 1847 - census records are consistent that Riley was about 1 year older than John. So either Riley was born in August or Sept of 1846, and John in December 1847, or they were each born one year earlier. In 1850 Riley was recorded as 4 and John 3, which would be consistent with the earlier dates (Riley in 1845 and John in 1846.) In 1860 Riley was recorded as 12 and John as 10, but those dates are clearly too young, because in 1860 their younger brother Daniel Alexander was recorded as 9, when he was listed as age 1 in 1850. In 1870 Riley is listed as 23 and John as 22.
I lean towards the later pair of dates mainly because it leaves for room for their older sister Mary Emma to be born in late 1844. If Riley was born in Aug or Sep 1845, then Mary Emma would have to be born very shortly after their parents were married.

Her gravestone says Hopey J. Day, March 12, 1845 - April 5, 1924.
The 1900 census gave her birthdate as March 1847.

The surname for Andrew should be Davis and the relationship stepson.
