The birthdate of Dec 1846 is not possbile without pushing his brother Riley’s birthdate into 1845, a year earlier than recorded on Riley’s gravestone, which leaves little room for the birth of their sister Emily. So it was more likely in 1847.

Her death certificate records Eliza Day, age 79 years 5 months 20 days, born 27 June 1855 in Kentucky, died 7 Oct 1934 in Rowan Co., Ky, widowed, father Andrew Arnold, mother’s maiden name Sarah Brooks, birthplaces unknown, cause of death pneumonia, informant Gracie Turner, Vale, Ky, burial in McBrayer Cemetery.

The 1900 census lists her as age 46, born June 1853, and that date is more consistent with her age in the 1880 and 1910 censuses as well.

If it weren’t for the parents listed on this death certificate, I would not have figured this Eliza for being Andrew and Sarah’s daughter, since their daughter Mary Elizabeth was listed as age 2 in 1850 and age 12 in 1860, and born in Ohio. All their other daughters are otherwise accounted for. So either Eliza is the sameperson as Mary Elizabeth, with her birthdate being off by 5 to 7 years and the birthplace wrong, or for some reason Eliza was not living in the household in 1860.

Day, John C., 53, b. Dec 1846, mail carrier; Eliza, wife, 46, b. June 1853, Ky Pa Pa, married 32 years, mother of 3 children, 3 living; Emerson G., 14, b. Jan 1886; Nellie, dau, 11, b. Sep 1888; Alice, dau, 9, b. Jan 1891. All children born Ky Ky Ky.

They must have misinterpreted the number of children question as being the number in the household, since there were at least four older children.
