Notes for Thomas Brown
This Thomas is probably a close relative of James Brown, my 5G grandfather, so I am entering data on all of his descendants that I know of, even though the relationship is unknown.
I don’t think he could be a son, even though the ages would work, because his oldest son John Fisher Brown married Matilda Brown, the youngest daughter of James Brown and Emily Cloe. It was pretty common to marry first cousins, but not a half-aunt.
My tentative guess is that he is a brother to the Elizabeth whose death certificate listed her parents as John and Catherine Brown, and that Elizabeth’s father John had died before 1850, and was a brother to my James Brown. (Based on naming patterns, their father may have been named William.) If that guess is correct, then Thomas would be my James’ nephew, Thomas and Matilda would be first cousins, and John Fisher Brown and Matilda would be first cousins once removed.
