Census Notes for Cynthia Ann Fairchild
1850 census of Johnson Co., Ky, enumerated 5 September, lists on p. 52 as family #345:
Rachel Fairchild, 34; Cynthia, 15; Surena, 12; William, 10; Jincy, 8. Rachel born in Virginia, all others in Kentucky.
1860 census of Johnson Co., Ky, Paintsville, enumerated 21 Aug, lists on p. 131 as household #933/932:
Rachael Fairchild (incorrectly marked as male), 45; Cynthia Fairchild, 25; Wm Fairchild, 21; Jinny Fairchild, 18; Jefferson Sturgeon, 22; Surina Sturgeon, 22; Pheba E. Fairchild, 18. All born in Kentucky. (Judging by the 1870 census, Pheba is William’s wife, even though she isn’t listed up with him.)
1870 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, enumerated June, lists as family #25:
Fairchild, William, 30, farmer, b. Ky; Phebe, 28; Mary, 9; Harrison, 7; Martha, 5; Luemma, 3; Lydia, 1/12, b. May; Fairchild, Rachel, 52, b. Va; Webb, Cyntha, 35; Lydia, 8.
There are dittos in the place of birth column for all except William and Rachel, which if taken literally would mean that Cyntha and Lydia Webb were also born in Virginia, but that is not consistent with other records. In the 1880 census Cynthia also has a daughter Rachel Webb age 16, so she should be here at age 6, but she is not.

Notes for John “Henry” & Cynthia Ann (Family)
The History of Elliott County56 says that Henry married first Ann Moyers and then Cynthia Webb in 1835, but the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses all show him with a wife Ann or Anna. It isn’t until 1880 that he appears with a wife Syntha and a step-daughter Rachel Webb. Cynthia’s age on the censuses suggest she was born about 1835; apparently the compiler of the article in the county history book confused her birth date with the marriage date.
