“Lester Brown, age 83, former resident of Broadway St., Shelby died Saturday, September 20, 2008 in Crestwood Care Center.
Born November 16, 1924 in Rowan County, Kentucky to George and Effie (Link) Brown he had been a Shelby resident since 1964. Mr. Brown was a former employee with Swisher Lumber Yard for many years and later was employed with Carton Service.
Lester was a quiet man who enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lanny and Faye Brown, Gary and Jonette Brown, and Stephen Brown all of Shelby; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Darlene Grew of Shelby; Jeanetta Muse of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; Roberta and Larry Gayheart, Brenda and John Backensto, and Tammie and Floyd Sexton all of Shelby; Tonya and Eddie Laser of Plymouth; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Berthie Brown of Lexington, Kentucky; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Icey B. Brown in 1999; two daughters, Donna Reynolds and Charlotte Gayheart; an infant daughter, Phyllis Brown; three brothers, David, Ivan and Russell Brown; and two sisters, Lorene Crager and Hazel Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 24 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend S.T. Adkins will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.”
