Wallace, mother’s maiden name Polly Cline, informant Mr. John Henry Wallace, cause of death chronic indigestion due to over eating, burial in private cemetery near Clearfield, Rowan Co., Ky.

His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Joshua Santford Wallace, age 37, residence Clearfield, Rowan Co., Ky, born 10 May 1881, self employed farming, nearest relative Rosie Wallace, same address.

Her death certificate records Rosa T. Wallace, age 69 years 9 months 2 days, born 11 Aug 1886 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 15 June 1948 in Lick Fork, RowanCo., Ky, married, wife of Josh Wallace age 67, father Henry Gregory, mother’s maiden name Sallie Caudill, both born in Rowan Co., Ky, cause of death unknown, believed to be uremia due to suspected diabetes, informant Lula Gregory, Morehead, Ky, burial in Wallace Cemetery.

The year of birth may be incorrect; she was listed as age 15 born Aug 1884 in the 1900 census. But it does not conflict with the known birthdates of any of her siblings, and is consistent with the 1910 census, where she was listed as age 23. So the 1900 census might be the one which is incorrect. (Too bad the 1890 census was lost.)

I cannot find a marriage record for them in Rowan Co. The marriage date is estimated from the 1910 census.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, enumerated 12 April, lists on p. 3A as family #33/36:
Wallace, Josh S., 28, farmer, b. W.Va Va Va; Rosie F., wife, 23, married 8 years, mother of 4 children, 4 living; John H., son, 7; Sarah A., dau, 5; Lulie, dau, 2; Lutie F., dau, 6/12. All except Josh are listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although that makes the father’s place of birth wrong for the children.

The preceding household is Rosa’s parents, J. Henry and Sally (Caudill) Gregory, and the following household is Josh’s parents, Henry Timothy Wallace and Mary “Polly” Cline.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, enumerated 17 Jan, lists on p. 4B as family #77/83:
Wallace, Josh, 38, b. WVa WVa WVa, farmer; Rosa, wife, 30, b. Ky Ky Ky; John H., son, 17; Sarah, dau, 15; Lulia, dau, 13; Lutie, dau, 10; Mattie, dau, 5; Leafie, dau, 11/12. All children born Ky Ky Ky. (Again this makes the father’s birthplace column inconsistent.)

There are three other Wallace families on this page (Josh’s brothers Alex and Mose, and his nephew Robert son of John), and three Gregory families.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Dry Creek precinct, enumerated 22 April, lists on p. 9A as family #153:
Wallace, Josh, 48, age at first marriage 20, b. Ky Va Va, farmer; Rosa, wife, 42, age at first marriage 13, b. Ky Ky Ky; Lutie, dau, 20; Letha R., dau, 11; Eva P., dau, 10; Isa, dau, 5. All children born Ky Ky Ky.

The next household is headed by their son John, for some reason incorrectly recorded as John H. Gregory.

1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, ED 103-2, enumerated 4 May, lists on p. 15B as family #238, on Perkins Ridge Rd:
Wallace, Josh, 58, farmer; Rosa, wife, 49; Icie B., dau, 15. All born in Kentucky, living in same house in 1935.

The preceding household is headed by their daughter Leafie with her husband Henry Smedley, and the next household is headed by their son John H.
