Carter Co. marriage book 2 (also called the “Blue Book”) lists on p. 18 the marriage of Daniel Porter and Polly Conn on 15 Oct 1854.
Census
1860 census of Carter Co., Ky, Bruin P.O., enumerated 23 Aug, lists on p. 202 as family #1449/1333:
Daniel Porter, 26, farmer, b. Ky; Mary S., 24, b. Va; Andrew J., 3, b. Ky; Amda S., 1, b. Ky.
The following household is that of Daniel’s parents, William Porter (age 57) and wife Rebecca (age 50), with sons James (20), Levi (19), Henry (14), Gabriel (12), and Amanda J. (10). (Note that the ages vary by up to 3 years from that implied by the 1850 census.)
This is the part of Carter Co. that was incorporated into Elliott Co. when it was formed in 1869. (There are six Kegley families on this page and the preceding one.)
1870 census of Carter Co., Ky, precinct 4, Grayson P.O., enumerated 21 July, lists on p. 10 as family #75/65:
Poter, Daniel, 36; Mary, 30; Jackson, 12; Amanda, 10; Ephraim, 8; Delila, 6; Samuel, 4; Eliza, 3. Mary born in Virginia, all others in Kentucky.
(Daniel’s parents are in Elliott Co., Newfoundland precinct, as are his siblings James, Henry, Gabriel and Amanda, but due to changing county lines, it is Daniel who has moved, not they. His parents are surrounded by similar neighbors to 1860.)
In 1880 the children of Daniel and Polly are distributed in different households in Elliott Co.
Gabriel and Henry are heads of household. Delila is listed as age 13 and Eliza as age 9, as sisters-in-law with George Absher age 19 and wife Susanah age 19, presumably Daniel’s daughter Amanda S. Samuel is listed as age 13, an unrelated boarder working as a farmhand with the family of R. N. Whitt age 24 and wife Mary A. age 19. There are also a Jackson Porter age 24 (single) and an Andrew Porter age 22 (married) listed in Elliott Co., either of whom could be his son Andrew Jackson. I could not find Ephraim.
