The annual report of births from county clerks to the Kentucky state auditor for 1855 lists John J. Daugherty, born 7 May 1855 in Pendleton Co., father Joseph Daugherty, mother’s maiden name Prissilla Simpson.

As an adult he went by his middle name James.

Her death certificate records Rosa Daugherty, age 66 years 3 months 15 days, born 30 July 1853 in Kentucky, died 15 Nov 1919 in Grassy Creek precinct, Pendleton Co., Ky, widow, father James Bowen, born in Virginia, mother’s maiden name Nancy Middleton, born in Ky, cause of death tuberculosis of lungs, informant Lucy McMilliam, Demossville, Ky.

She was probably really born in 1851, since the 1860 census listed her as age 9, and she does not appear in the 1852 or 1853 birth records for Pendleton Co.

This couple (and their parents) are in my database only to document that Rosa is not the same person as the Rosetta who was the wife of Alexander H. Daugherty, since their names, birth and death dates are so similar as to be very easily confused.
