His gravestone, a double one with his wife, has the inscription Royse, Johny M., Aug 29, 1873 - Nov 2, 1930 : Francis, Jan 3, 1878 - Feb 21, 1929

Her maiden name is variously spelled as Robison, Roberson, and Robinson. Most male line descendants of her parents today use the spelling Robinson, presumably since it is a more common name and helps avoid misspellings, but Robison was the spelling used most commonly in earlier records.

Rowan Co. marriage register A, p. 84, records the marriage on 13 Apr 1894 of John M. Royse and Fannie Roberson.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 11A as family #186/188:

The preceding household is headed by John’s brother James, and the following one by his parents.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 26 Jan, lists on p. 13B as family #251/254:
Royse, John, farmer, 49; Flora, wife, 42; Julie, dau, 18; Ollie, (see note below), 24; Allie, dau, 19; Golda, dau, 15; Nola, dau, 12; Dora, dau, 10; Adina, dau, 7; Cortis, son, 2 1/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The relationship for Ollie was entered as Daughter, but it has been blotted out, and the gender corrected from F to M. The corrections, however, did not go far enough. The child listed (correctly) as a son Allie in 1900 and 1910 is here reported as a daughter. Dora (Dorsey) should also be a son.

The next household is John’s parents, recorded as Phem and Martha.

(The line for Adina is hard to read, because the data for Fannie was originally entered and then overwritten with Adina’s. So the name space says Adina with Fannie mostly erased underneath, the relationship space says both wife and daughter, the marital status contains both M and S, the age space says both 52 and 17, and the age at first marriage space says 16 with an attempt to erase it.)
