Deb Howard’s Family Tree Maker site27, following Clayton Cox’s “Appalachian Crossroads”, shows this Abner Caudill as being married to Leah Short. But that is inconsistent with the 1880 census, which shows Abner with a wife Mary and mother-in-law Sarah Hammons, and Robin Christian with a wife Leah. Records of the Short and Christian families say that Robert Paris “Robin” Christian married Leah Short on 12 May 1864.

Her gravestone says Naoma Kelley, Oct 1, 1837 - Mar 22, 1907, wife of John Kelley Sr.

1860 census of Floyd Co., Ky, Prestonsburg P.O., enumerated 31 July, lists on p. 72 as family #473:
Abner Caudle, 24, farmer, b. Ky; Neoma, 23, seamstress, b. Ky; Zilpha, 5; Colbert C., 3; Marion (m), 6/12. All children born in Kentucky. Abner, 63, laborer, b. N.C.; Eleander, 64, seamstress, b. Va.

The older Abner is the younger one’s uncle, and Eleander is his wife.

1870 census of Floyd Co., Ky, Prestonburg P.O., enumerated 8 Aug, lists on pp. 3-4 as family #21:
Caudell, Abner, 36, farmer; Maoma, 33; Zilpha, 16; Colbert, 13; Marion (m), 10; Franky (f), 8; Dicy, 4; Evaline, 1; Elenor, 65. All born in Kentucky.

(It appears that the name for Abner’s wife was originally entered as Manda and then a correction to Naoma was attempted by inserting an o, overwriting the nd with ma, and blotting out the final a. The M was not changed, but should have been.)

The preceding household is Sarah Hammons age 80, Naoma’s mother.
