Notes for William H. Bowman
His death certificate (Vol. 19, #9016), filed on 15 Jan 1921, records William H. Bowman, age 73, born 1848 in W. Va., farmer, died 8 Jan 1920 in Rowan Co., Ky, names of parents unknown, both born in W. Va., informant blank, cause of death statement signed by A.L.Blair and dated Jan 15, 1921 states “never attended him they had no doctor this man dide allmost instanley must have been acut indigestion”, burial in Bowman Cemetery on Jan 10, 1921.
The reason that I transcribed the filing date, the doctor’s signature date, and the burial date is to show that they are all 1921. The “1920” in the date of death field is comparable to writing last year’s date on a check before you get used to the new year. The cemetery records confirm this interpretation, since his gravestone says William H. Bowman, 30 Apr 1850 - 8 Jan 1921.

Her gravestone in Bowman Cemetery has the dates 25 Mar 1854 to 17 Jul 1930, but both dates are inconsistent with public records.
Grayson Co. Virginia birth records list Lucinda Roberts born 28 Feb 1855, daughter of Minitry and Famy Roberts.
Her death certificate records Lucinda Bowman, age 76 years 4 months 14 days, born 2 March 1854 in Va, died 16 July 1930 in Rowan Co., Ky, widowed, father Emmint Roberts, maiden name of mother unknown, cause of death paralysis, informant Herbert Bowman, Crix, Ky, burial in Bowman Cemetery.

In 1870 she is listed in Bath Co., Ky, Mudlick precinct, as Lucinda Roberts age 16, housekeeper, with the family of T.S. Gragg at household #307.

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Wyoming precinct, enumerated 21 June, lists on p. 35 as family #322/331:
Boman, William H., 30, laborer, b. Va Va NC(?); Lucinda, 23, wife, b. Va Va Va; Nora L., 8, dau; Mary A., 6, dau; Ann E., 4, dau; James M., 3, son; Rosa C., 2, dau; Stevens, Richard, 24, boarder, b. Ky Ky Ky. All children born Ky Va Va.
I cannot find this family in 1900 or 1910.
1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, precinct #9 (Wagoner), lists as family #1:
Bowman, William H., 71; Lucinda, wife, 66; Foster, Hester, 12, granddaughter; Goldy, 10, granddaughter.
Hester and Goldy are daughters of Thomas Foster and Alberta Bowman. I do not know why they were living with their grandparents; Alberta was still alive, and did not marry Taylor Gregory until 1921.
In 1930 Lucinda is living with her son Herbert and his wife Sarah, recorded as Lucinda, mother, 76, widowed, age at first marriage 17, b. Va Va Va.
