Notes for Lewis H. Riddle
His WWI draft registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), says Lewis Riddle, age 41, residence Morehead, Rowan Co, Ky, born 17 Oct 1876, occupation farmer, self-employed, nearest relative Allie Riddle, Morehead, Ky.
The 1900 census says his date of birth is Sept 1887, but that is inconsistent with other records, and the birthdates in that census are largely fictional.
Index to Kentucky Death Records lists Lewis Riddle, d. 23 Oct 1963, age 87, in Rowan Co., residence same, certificate Vol. 56, #27590.
Jean Hudson's cemetery notes include in Coffey Cemetery, W. Flemingsburg Rd, Rowan Co. adjacent stones for:
Lewis Riddle 1876 - 1963
Allie Riddle 18 Jan 1883 - 18 Sep 1931
Kenny Ray Riddle Feb 1949 - May 1949
The same stones are listed under Crix Cemetery on Rt. 1167, except that the dates for Allie are given as 3 Jan 1883 - 12 Sep 1931. Obviously the stones from one cemetery were moved to the other, but I did not make note of which one was the original and which the destination.
Notes for Elizabeth “Lizzie” Adkins
The Kentucky Death Index lists Lizzie A. Stamper, died 30 Nov 1977, age 87, in Rowan Co., residence same, certificate Vol. 64, #31679. (I don’t know whether the “A” is for Adkins or whether it is for a middle name like Ann.)
The Social Security Death index lists Lizzie Stamper, died Nov 1977, born 1 Jan 1889, last residence Farmers, Rowan Co., Ky, SSN #403-52-0297 issued in Kentucky. (The birthdate of 1 Jan 1889 is not consistent with the age at death on her death certificate, nor with the age on her marriage record, both of which suggest a birthdate in 1890 or 1891.)
She is buried under a double stone with Robert, inscribed as Lizzie A. Stamper, 1890 - 1977.
Notes for Lewis H. & Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage book 54, p. 112, records the marriage on 14 Sep 1950 of Lewis Riddle, 72, widowed, born in Rowan Co., residence Morehead, s/o Nathan & Mary Riddle, to Elizabeth Stamper, 59, widowed, born in Rowan Co., residence Farmers, d/o John & Sarah Adkins, at Morehead by I. N. Caudill, minister of the Primitive Baptist church, witnesses George T. Cooper and Daisy Caudill.
The marriage lasted less than a year, and Lizzie returned to using the name Stamper.
