Notes for Reuben “Harrison” Conn
The History of Elliott County gives his date of birth as 1825, and puts him after Jesse Wilson Jr. in the birth order, but the censuses seem fairly consistent in putting his birthdate at about 1820 or 1821.
Notes for Elizabeth Rose
The birth record of Harrison and Elizabeth’s daughter Didamia lists Elizabeth’s maiden name as Rose. But the death certificate of James Melvin Conn lists his mother’s maiden name as Betsy Pennington.
Either the birth record for Didamia is incorrect, or the death certificate for Melvin is incorrect, or Harrison had two different wives named Elizabeth, both born in Virginia. One bit of evidence to suport the latter conclusion is that the 1900 census record for Melvin listed with him Lizzie Conn, age 77, born Mar 1823, Va Va Va, mother. She was listed as the mother of 1 child, 1 living.
I have not located death certificates for any of Harrison’s other children.
