Nancy’s daughter Isabell wrote in a letter to her grandson:

“My mother Nancy Jane Sparks Nickell was Irish. She was left an orphan when 12 years old. Her father Tom Sparks fell over a cliff and died. Her mother Elizabeth Sparks raised her children. I think there were my mother Nancy Jane - John - Fred - Francis - Martha. There was one more I don’t remember her name.”
