His death certificate records Elik Patton, age 65 years 10 months 14 days, born 4 Sep 1871 in Rowan Co., died 18 July 1927 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, married, occupation oil man, father Charlie Patton, born in West Virginia, mother’s maiden name Nancie Million, birth place don’t know, cause of death train struck automobile - killed instantly, informant Mrs. Steve Caudill, burial in Lee Cemetery, Morehead, Ky.
The reported birthdate conflicts with that on his gravestone and the family bible.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage register A, p. 88, records the marriage of Alexander Patton and Cyntha Conn on 1 June 1893.
The Alex Patton family bible107 contains an entry “2. A Patten was married to sinthy Conn June 1 1892”
I am uncertain which of these two dates is correct. I may have misread the marriage register. On the other hand, the bible record was started some time after 1895 (the publication date), and most likely after his marriage to Nannie Turner (since her birthdate is entered immediately after his), so the dates for his earlier marriages would have been from memory, and might be wrong.
