His death certificate records Al Gearhart, age 76, birthdate blank, born in Va, died 11 Mar 1919 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, divorced, farmer, parent names “dont know”, both born in Va, cause of death general paralysis of the insane (that was what they called the terminal stage of syphilis in those days), informant blank, burial in Baldridge Cemetery.

Her death certificate states Nancy Ann Gearheart, age 90, widow of Allan H. Gearheart, born 1855 in Morgan Co., Ky, died 22 Nov 1945 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, father Save Hardin, birthplace don’t know, mother’s maiden name Mary Harris, born in Indiana, cause of death lobar pneumonia and senility, informant L. P. Gearheart, burial in Hatch graveyard.

In 1920 she was living with her son John, listed as Annie Gearhart, age 61, widowed. In 1940 she was also living with him, listed as Anna Gearheart, 82, widowed. I have not found her in the 1930 census; she may have been moving from child to child and been missed by the census.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage of Allen Gayhart and Ann Hardin on 31 Dec 1874 at Harvey Brown’s by H. W. Bailey, witnesses Harvey N. Brown and Lucinda Ellington.

The annual report to the state auditor records the same marriage as Alen Gerhart, age 25, farmer, born in Virginia, parent birthplaces blank, his second marriage, to Nancy A. Harden, age 16, born in Ky, father born in Ky, mother born in Indiana, both residents of Morgan Co.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 26 as family #200/229:
Gearhart, Allen, 37, shoe maker, b. Va Va Va; Annie, 22, wife, b. Ky Ky Ky; Mary L., 4, dau; Ida M., 2, dau; John, 1, son. All children born Ky Va Ky.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 13 June, lists on p. 11B as family #217:
Graheart, Allen, 50, b. Apr 1850, Ky Ky Ky, widowed; William, son, 18, b. May 1882. Both are recorded as born Ky Ky Ky, although that is inconsistent with other records. I do not trust the birthdates either.3

(All the Gearhart/Gearheart families are incorrectly recorded as Graheart in this census.) Allen is not really widowed, but divorced.
