There was another William Staton in Bath Co. born about 1825 (age in census varies) who also had a wife named Sarah (nee McClain) who went by Sally, so be careful not to get them confused. Some researchers, in particular, have mistakenly assigned this William’s death date to the one who married Sarah McClain.

(The way you can tell which William’s dates go with which wife is that W. B. Staton and Sallie A. Staton are buried together under a joint obelisk-style stone with full dates for both, and the death certificates of many of their children give Frazier as their mother’s maiden name.)

Her death certificate records Sallie Ann Statton, age 82, born 5 Jan 1915, birth place not known, died 5 Jan 1915 in precinct 3, Menifee Co., Ky, widow, parents not known, cause of death lagrippe, informant J. H. Thomas, Scranton, Ky, burial in Statton Cemetery.

J. H. Thomas is her son-in-law, the husband of her oldest daughter Armilda.

Bath Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 27 Mar 1854 of Wm Staton, age 29, resident of Bath Co., and Salley Ann Frazier, age 20, resident of Pendleton Co., both born in Bath Co.

Their joint gravestone, a pillar in the Staton Cemetery on Beaver Creek which was relocated as part of the Cave Run Lake project to Ginter Cemetery atop a hill near the intersection of Beaver Creek and Leatherwood Creek, is inscribed W. B. Staton, April 4, 1825 - Dec 6, 1903 : Sallie A., his wife, May 25, 1833 - Jan 5, 1915.

1860 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville precinct, enumerated 14 Aug, lists on p. 236 as family #1712:
William Staton Jr., 35, farmer; Sarah, 27; Sarah, 12; Elizabeth, 10; Armilda, 5; George, 3; John, 3/12. All born in Ky.

The first two daughters are children of William and his first wife Nancy Wilson. The preceding household is George W. Staton age 29 with wife Mary age 22.

1870 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Beaver precinct, enumerated 12 July, lists on p. 1 as family #6:
Staten, William, 45, farmer; Sarah, 37; Elizabeth, 20; George W., 12; John, 10; Mary, 8; Charles, 3; Rosabell, 2; Issabella, 2. All born in Ky.

The following household is William Staten Sr. age 71 with wife Hannah age 56.

1880 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Frenchburg precinct 3, enumerated 9 June, lists on p. 24 as family #198/214:

1900 census of Menifee Co., Ky, district 3, enumerated 19 June, lists on p. 10A as family #159:

July 1899; Staton, William, father-in-law, 75, b. Apr 1825; Sarah A., mother-in-law, 67, b. May 1833, married 50 years, mother of 1 child, 1 living; Igo, Effie, neice, 8, b. May 1892, single, married 50 years, mother of 9 children, 8 living.

Apparently the marriage/children data line that should be for Sarah Staton was mistakenly entered after Effie. There is no number of years married for William Staton, as there should be. The “1 child 1 living” on the elder Sarah’s line may be a later “correction” by the census taker who noticed it blank and figured that a mother-in-law must have at least one living child.
