Bath Co., Ky birth records list Noah Martial Goodpaster, born 27 Mar 1852, father David Goodpaster, mother’s maiden name Martha Goodpaster. (I am entering his middle name under the more common spelling of Marshall.)

The 1880 mortality schedule for Bath Co., Ky lists Noah Goodpaster, age 24, married, b. Ky Ky Ky, died 4 May of consumption, report from Dr. Curry. (The form does not request the date of death, just the month, but this clerk supplied full dates for most entries.) The cross-referenced household number is 43, which is headed by Noah’s widow Mary.

The Illinois death index lists Mary Adaline Royce, age 74, born 18 Sep 1854 in Bath Co., Kentucky, died 8 May 1929 in district 10, Menard Co., Illinois, married, wife of A. J. Royce, father Harry Riddle, mother’s maiden name Liddie Boyd, both born in Ky, burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sweetwater, Menard Co., Illinois.

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Wyoming prec., enumerated 3 June, lists on p. 5 family #41/43:
Goodpaster, Mary A., 22, widowed, boarding; James L., 5, son; Richard, 4, son; George Ann, 1, dau. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Mary’s parents and sister Charlotte are in the same house but with at different family number, at #41/42. (Another way of recording that household would have been to list Mary as their daughter and her children as grandchildren of Harrison and Lydia, which is more commonly done for young widows living with their parents. I suspect the main reason that Mary was listed as head of household was so that the mortality schedule could link Noah’s entry to his widow via the family number.) The next household (#42/44) is headed by Noah’s brother James Goodpaster, who is married to Mary’s sister Henrietta.
