Notes for John Fleming Parker
Rowan Co., Ky birth records list John F. Parker Jr., born 25 Jan 1874, father Lewis M. Parker, mother’s maiden name Franka J. Royse, both parents born in Fleming Co.
His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records John Fleming Parker, age 44, residence Elliottville, Rowan Co., Ky, born 25 Jan 1874, occupation farming, self employed, nearest relative Susie Parker, wife, same address.
His death certificate records John F. Parker, age 59 years 21 days, born 25 Jan 1874 in Ky, died 16 Feb 1933 in Rowan Co., Ky, married, husband of Susie Parker, father Mason Parker, mother’s maiden name Frankie Royse, both born in Ky, cause of death heart dropsy, informant Susie Parker, Christy, Ky, burial in Parker Cemetery. (This cemetery is apparently now known as Ditney Cemetery.)
Notes for Miriam F. Lewis
Her name was spelled as Miriam on the marriage record to David Kendall, as Marm on the marriage record to John Parker, and as Miram on her gravestone. Dates of birth and death are from her gravestone.
According to user family trees submitted by descendants of her son Allie H. Parker, she is the same person as the Minerva F. Lewis, listed as age 6 in the 1880 census, daughter of Isaac C. Lewis and Rhoda Ellen Templeman. Supporting evidence is that the Lewis F. Templeman who proved bond surety for Miriam’s marriage to David Kendall was Rhoda’s brother (hence Minerva/Miriam’s uncle), and I cannot find any other fit in the censuses, neither for Miriam nor for any “J. R. Lewis” who could be Miriam’s father.
Contra-indicators are the mismatch of first names, and that the consent note for the marriage was signed by J. R. Lewis (at least as I transcribed it) for his daughter. I can easily see mistaking an I for a J, since they were so similar in early penmanship, but an R and a C are nothing alike. Perhaps the consent was really from “I and R Lewis”, meaning Isaac and Rhoda? I should go back and examine it more carefully the next time I’m in Morehead.
