According to the History of Elliott County56, John moved to Greenup Co., Kentucky in 1867 with his second wife. He must have died very shortly thereafter, because by 1870 she had already remarried to William Zornes.

1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, p. 129, records as family #583 (after the Jesse Conn Sr. family):
John Con, 40; Ursley, 40; Hiram, 22; Mary, 19; John, 16; William, 12; Louisa, 10; Jesse, 8; Melvina, 6; Benjamin, 4; Josiah, 1. Benjamin and Josiah born in Ky, all others in Virginia.

Jackson Co., Ohio Death Records Book C, p. 136, lists the death on 6 Dec 1906 of Rachel Hamer, age 77 years, 11 months, 23 days.

Calculating backwards from this age at death yields a birthdate of 14 Dec 1828. But all the census records and her marriage record to John Conn are more consistent with a date of birth one to three years later. Not a single other record is consistent with a birthdate as early as Dec 1828. So her age at death was probably given wrong. I am therefore entering 1829 as her year of birth, but it may have been 1830 instead. It is even possible that 1828 is correct and that the census and marriage records are all wrong.

1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists Rachel Barnett, 20, Sabrina Barnett, 2, and Jesse Barnett 6 months, all born in Ky, living with the family of Jesse W. Bryant age 44 and Sabrina age 39, both born in Tennessee.

1870 census of Greenup Co., Ky, precinct #3, enumerated 30 June, lists on p. 13 as family #93/90:
Zornes, William, 49, farming, b. Ky; Melissa, 37, b. Tennessee; Barsheba, 10; Sarah A., 8; Catherine E., 6; James M., 4; Conn, Levi, 14; Martin V., 12; Lydia M., 10; Lovenda, 8; Daniel, 6. All children born in Kentucky. I am assuming that all the Zornes children are from a prior marriage, because the History of Elliott Co. said that John Conn moved to Greenup County in 1867.

1880 census of Milton township, Jackson Co., Ohio, enumerated 3 June, lists on p. 4 as family #27:
Hamer, Thomas, 44 (or possibly 49), iron miner, b. England/England/England; Rachel M., 48, wife, b. Tennessee/Alabama/Alabama; Joseph, 14, son, iron miner, b. 1900 census of Lick township, Jackson, Jackson Co., Ohio, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 10B, Bridge Street, as family #210/226:
Hamer, Thomas, 63, b. Jan 1837, England/England/England; Rachel M., wife, 70, b. Jan 1830, married 20 years, b. Tenn/Ky/Ky.

Morgan County marriage records list the marriage on Dec 22, 1853 of John Conn, age 45, widower, born Russell Co., Virginia, to Mrs. Rachel M. Barnett, age 23, by Rufus Humphrey.

However, Morgan County birth records on the same microfilm list the legitimate birth of Cyntha Ann Conn to John Conn and Rachel M. Bennett on 15 Oct 1853. Since the vital statistics records in this source are an end-of-year report to the state auditor, events that occur near the end of a year are often included on the next year’s report. So I suspect that the marriage really took place in Dec 1852.

John Conn, 48, farmer, b. Virginia; Rachel, 29, b. Tennessee; John, 26, b. Va; Jesse, 18, b. Va; Benjamin, 12, b. Ky; Joseph, 10, b. Ky; Levi, 6, b. Ky; Martin, 3, b. Ky.

The next household is that of John Conn age 28 with wife Rebecca age 23. Since other sources such as the Elliott County History56 list John Conn who married Rebecca Bare as the son of John Conn and Ursula Carter, apparently John Jr. was listed twice in this census, once with his father and once with his wife.
